Create an automatic summary of a podcast in a few clicks
How to turn a podcast episode into a summary and key points using transcription: step-by-step method, the plan you need and tips for a good result.
A podcast episode often runs an hour or more. You do not always have time to listen, or to take notes. Fortunately, you can get a clear summary in a few minutes: the AI transcribes the episode, then pulls out the essentials.
Who is this for?
- Listeners: decide whether an episode is worth it, or remember what you heard while walking.
- Podcast creators: produce show notes, a blog post or social media posts.
- Students and professionals: keep a record of an interview or an audio lecture.
- Trend watchers: follow several shows without listening to everything.
Step 1: get the episode's audio
Depending on where the episode lives:
- Podcast also published on YouTube: just copy the video link. With AudioWhiz, transcription from a link is available from the Pro plan.
- An audio file you own (yours, or one you have the right to use): upload it directly. MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC and OGG formats are accepted.
Step 2: start the transcription with the summary
In AudioWhiz, open Transcribe, add the file or paste the link, then turn on the analysis options: the summary (Pro plan) and, if there are several voices, speaker identification.
For a full episode, the Premium plan adds podcast / interview mode, designed for this kind of content.
Step 3: proofread and use the result
You get the full text and its summary. Skim it: a guest's name or a technical term may be misspelled. You can fix it in the editor, then:
- Copy the summary into your notes or show notes.
- Export the text as TXT, DOCX or PDF, or as subtitles.
- Share the transcript with a link, protected by a code if needed.
What episode length and which plan?
- Free plan: files up to 20 minutes and 60 minutes per month, fine for a short format or a trial.
- Pro plan: up to 2 h per audio, 1,200 minutes per month: most episodes fit.
- Premium plan: up to 5 h per audio, for very long formats.
Tips for a good summary
- Clear sound gives a better transcript, so a better summary: see our tips to improve audio quality.
- Check the language if the episode switches between languages.
- Double-check numbers and names: an automatic summary can simplify; for an exact quote, go back to the full text.
- Respect rights: summarizing for your own use is one thing, republishing another creator's content requires their permission.
